Visakhapatnam , May 18

Girijan Co-operative Corporation Ltd has finalised the action plan for the 2006-07 and it is targeting a turnover of Rs 228 crore.

The Chairperson of the company, Ms T. Ratnabai, while addressing the press here, said that the company was able to achieve a business turnover of Rs 194.48 crore only for the year 2005-06, as against the original target of Rs 250 crore.

She said the target for the current financial year was more realistic and achievable, and the corporation would strive to pay Girijans remunerative prices for the forest produce collected by them and support agricultural activities in the tribal tracts.

"The GCC had also started exports in a small way and it was receiving enquiries from Ireland, Malaysia and other nations for honey and other products. It is our aim to introduce our products to the markets abroad and build up the brand image gradually," she said.

Dr Premchand, Vice-chairman and Managing Director, said 191 employees had been redeployed and the corporation was also placing great emphasis on training the workforce.

The GCC was planning to appoint 100 more distributors during the current year, taking the total to 500, to reach all corners of the State, he said. Efforts would also be made to increase the institutional sales. Besides, distributors would be appointed in Chennai, Bangalore and Bhubaneswar during the year to introduce GCC products in those states. The corporation was planning to bring out some specialised products based on herbs and was working closely with the research institutions towards that end.
