Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu Trade, industry circles' wishlist to new TN Govt Our Correspondent
Madurai , May 18 A new Government has taken over the administration in the State and the trade and industry circles here have come out with their wishlists. The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants' Association, in a statement, expressing confidence in the new Government, has sought the abolition of the resale tax, enhancement of the annual turnover limit to Rs 10 lakh for registration under TNGST Act and a review of the proposal for allowing foreign direct investment in retail trade. The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in a statement, pointing out the promise during the election campaign to implement the 20-point charter of demands put forward by it on behalf of trade and industry, has sought scrapping of resale tax, enhancement of the sales tax annual turnover exemption limit to Rs 10 lakh, introduction of value added tax and to reinstate to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council. With a Government in place that could cooperate and work in tandem with the Union Government, speedy implementation of various highly important infrastructure projects should be taken immediately, it added. The Madurai District Tiny And Small Scale Industries Association, in a statement, has sought early implementation of VAT, liberalisation of the norms of pollution control in respect of small scale units, lending finance at a lesser rate of interest through Tamilnadu Industrial Investment Corporation, giving thrust to infrastructure development, giving adequate focus to Madurai, an investment destination for IT, ITES and manufacturing industries, and establishing a separate Ministry for small scale industries.
