MS to encourage budding researchers

Our Bureau

Bangalore , May 19

Efforts are on at Microsoft Research India to encourage budding researchers in the country.

With the start of Research Summer School, the company will bring in experts and professors from top universities such as Yale, Stanford and Cambridge to teach participants about a specific research topic. The topics scheduled this time are algorithms, cryptography and security.

"With the increasing influx of R&D centres and local companies setting up their internal research bureaus, researchers can expect jobs that are commensurate with their expertise. Around 80 have enrolled in the training course, including students, professors and even scientists from DRDO," said Mr P. Anandan, Managing Director, Microsoft Research India. The school has been started in partnership with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. The three-week long course will be held at IISc campus between May 22 and June 10. The Bangalore lab is one of the five global ones set up by the IT behemoth to research ways to bridge the digital divide.
