Cetma against licence fee on TV

Expressing concern over reports in a section of the press regarding the Government mulling levy of licence fee on each television set at the manufacturing stage to boost the financial health of Prasar Bharati, the Consumer Electronics and TV Manufacturers Association (Cetma) has said that the move will help increase the grey market for the product. According to the association, the proposed licence fee of 10-15 per cent ad valorem of purchase price will raise the present level of taxes from 35 per cent to 45-50 per cent.
