Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company is investing around Rs 12 crore to add 60 showrooms by 2008 to its existing 35, mainly to cater to the furniture market. "The furniture market is growing at 15-20 per cent yearly, while we have grown by 26 per cent every year over the last three years," said Mr Anil Sain Mathur, Chief Operating Officer (Furniture and Interiors Group), Godrej and Boyce. Currently, the organised furniture market is divided into three major product lines - office furniture (worth around Rs 2,500 crore), institutionalised furniture (Rs 2,000 crore) and home furniture (Rs 4,000 crore). The company currently holds 15-33 per cent of the domestic furniture market across different product lines. South India and Tamil Nadu specifically, contribute 33 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively to the company's total revenues. The company is also looking at diversifying into hospital furniture. "Currently we are providing functional furniture such as desks, beds and chair. We are looking at healthcare related furniture which will be hospital specific," said Mr Mathur.
