Good demand lifts Kochi tea prices

Good general demand propped up the price of well liquoring CTC and below medium bolder CTC dust varieties at the Kochi tea auction.

There was 10,82,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the auction, in which CTC dust generally eased by Re 1 to Rs 2.

Orthodox high grown prices eased, while medium orthodox remained steady. Medium and below medium CTC dust witnessed some export enquiries as well. Best CTC varieties realised prices of Rs 54-65, medium CTC Rs 45-53 and below medium Rs 43-46. High grown BOPD were quoted between Rs 94 and Rs 110, medium BOPD Rs 42-45 and secondaries ranged between Rs 37 and Rs 39.

Leaf tea

Best high grown and medium primary orthodox grades remained steady to firm at the leaf tea auction, which had 4,44,000 kg on offer. Whole leaf grades remained dearer, while secondary orthodox medium grades tended to ease, even as fannings remained steady. Exporters to CIS countries and Libya remained selective in orthodox grades. CTC leaf witnessed good demand from interstate buyers.

Best Nilgiri leaf varieties were quoted between Rs 65 and Rs 70, medium orthodox at Rs 48-55 and plain orthodox at Rs 44-45. Best CTC leaf commanded between Rs 48-54, while medium CTC fetched Rs 44-48.

Kodanad BOPD at Rs 110, Parkside BOPD at Rs 94 Pasuparai FD at Rs 91 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 90 commanded the top prices among dust tea. In the leaf segment, top prices were realised by Kodanad BOPF at Rs 91, Havukkal BOPF Rs 90, Chamaraj FOP Rs 86 and Havukal FP at Rs 78.
