New Products & Services LG plans to unveil new range of washing machines, dishwashers Our Bureau
Pune , May 22 LG Electronics plans to unveil a new range of washing machines with direct drive technology, a range of top-loading washing machines, and new dishwasher models. Speaking to newspersons, Mr Rajiv Jain, Business Group Head, Washing Machines, said that the new range of washing machines with the direct drive technology would be in the form of completely broken down units and would be imported from South Korea. The company is looking at sales of 4,000 units during the first year. Mr Jain said that the price of these would be between Rs 40,000 and Rs 80,000. The company would be rolling out the launch in metros and mini-metros and would be placing these machines at 200 centres in the country. LG is also looking at setting up a front-loading washing machine plant in Ranjangaon in Pune by the middle of next year. For the current year, the company is looking at sales of 45,000 units and 65,000-70,000 next year. Of this, 25-30 per cent would come in from exports. Currently, LG exports semi-automatic and top loading machines to West Asia, South Africa, Iraq, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. On the direct drive technology, Mr Jain said that the front loader washing machines with the new technology are equipped with shower spray system and circulating system, which improve performance by 15-20 per cent. The washing time is decreased to five minutes from the normal 8-12 minutes and water consumption is lowered to seven litres from nine litres. LG is offering a warranty period of seven years for the new technology against the two years that is the norm. He said that two models are currently being launched; the company would be adding six models. Mr Jain also said that LG, which currently has 35 per cent market share in washing machines, is looking at 38 per cent by the year-end. Looking ahead at the festive season, the company would be offering a new range of top loading machines to be rolled out from its Noida plant. Two more models in the dishwasher segment would hit the domestic market; they would have adjustable and flexible shelf keeping domestic usage of utensils in mind.
