Renewed buying buoys spot rubber

Aravindan

Kottayam , May 23

Sheet rubber RSS 4 improved to Rs 100.50 a kg from Rs 100 a kg at Kottayam and Kochi on renewed buying. Bullish international markets catalysed the day's mood, while the covering groups and purchase agents offered enhanced quotations to attract better supply. The remaining grades ruled steady, as there was no fresh enquires from the non-tyre sector.

Meanwhile, widespread rains started disrupting tapping leading to further slip in production. At the same time, the news on global supply crunch due to heavy rains in Thailand and Malaysia reposed confidence on domestic players as it almost indicated a firm trend in near term.

Futures gain

Reacting to the positive signals from abroad, the rubber futures gained smartly on NMCE. The June contract was quoted at Rs 102.90 (Rs 101.17), July contract at Rs 104.13 (Rs 102.33), August contract at Rs 101.50 (Rs 99.69) and September contract at Rs 100.00 (Rs 98.27) per kg for RSS 4.

The spot prices per kg were as follows: RSS-4: Rs 100.50 (Rs 100.00);

RSS-5: Rs 97.50 (Rs 97.50); Ungraded: Rs 94.00 (Rs 94.00); ISNR 20: Rs 95.00 (Rs 94.00) and Latex 60 per cent (per litre): Rs 73.00 (73.00).
