HP clinic to resolve customer problems

Storage management support for SMEs

Coimbatore , May 23

"When users look for cost-effective enterprise solutions, they fail to understand that the application would require hardware and software upgrades. The best value for money can be realised only by converting the infrastructure without much investment," Mr Avijit Basu, Country Marketing Manager (Enterprise Storage and Server Technology Solutions Group), Hewlett-Packard India Sales Pvt Ltd, told Business Line.

The company has set up an IT clinic to study its customer applications and resolve the problems they encounter.

Stating that applications like the SAP have become more affordable, Mr Basu said the pain points however were the four `Cs' - Continuity, Consolidation, Compliance and Change.

He said a number of small and medium business (SMB) customers did not know how to manage disparate storage, but had realised the importance of protecting and managing data, which had increased over the years.

To a query on the kind of storage management support that HP offered to the SMB segment, he said through the virtualisation technology, the company helped manage and automate the arrays easily.

"It helps maximise the utilisation capacity and thereby reduce cost. Avoidance of any `hotspots' in the arrays ensures minimum disk wastage," he said.

He added that cost-effective and simple to use back-up software such as Dataprotector, System Insight and Business Copy and Continuous Access on EVA disk arrays for business continuity helped address the four pain points.
