An upward trend was witnessed in the physical delivery of almost all commodities for the May contract on the National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India. The NMCE also facilitated the first physical delivery of copra, which is seen as a positive trend towards price discovery.

While delivery in copra was 14 tonnes and constituted 4.86 per cent of the trade volume, that in rubber was 1475 tonnes or 1.12 per cent of volume and pepper 990 tonnes or 1.28 per cent of volume. Physical delivery in cardamom was 87 quintals, chana was 250 tonnes, robusta coffee was 4.5 tonnes and gaur seed was 20 tonnes. Cardamom futures and spot prices moved in tandem with each other, while both chana futures and spot moved above the Rs 2,000 level and crossed the Rs 2,500 level towards the expiry period of the contract.
