IIM students against quota hike

Our Bureau

Bangalore, May 24

Students of all six IIMs have extended their support to the protesting medical students in the country. "We are against the proposed increase in reservation in graduate and post-graduate institutes," said Mr Srihari Bharatthi R, President, Students' Council, IIM, Bangalore, at a press conference.

He said the student bodies would meet again in the second week of June to decide the next course of action, "as most of the IIM students are away on summer internships."

Expressing their opposition to the hike in quota at the IIM Bangalore, today, student representatives from all six institutes (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkota, Kozhikode, Indore and Lucknow) felt that there is no justice in denying higher education to the meritorious and giving it to those who have not performed at par.

"Increasing the number of seats is contingent on the availability of infrastructure and human capital, the latter getting dearer by the day," the statement said.
