Cotton body may raise output estimate

Dhimant Bhatt

Mumbai , May 25

The Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) is likely to raise the crop estimate to 245 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) for the current season 2005-06 (October-September) from the initial estimate of 242.50 lakh bales made on December 7 last at its meeting on Friday. It will also discuss the current season's demand-supply scenario.

The CAB is a representative body of the Union Government, growers, mills and traders. Traders expect cotton crop to be an all-time high of 250 lakh bales. "Total arrivals have so far touched 232 lakh bales and the overall supply situation is good," a local miller said. Daily inflows are estimated at 20,000 bales, mainly in Gujarat and Maharashtra
