Maruti sells 61,000 Swifts in first year

Maruti Udyog's runaway success with its premium hatchback model, the Swift, set a new record by clocking over 61,000 units in the first year of launch.

Swift, which was launched exactly a year ago, has so far clocked 61,200 units.

Priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the model received good response.

In the first week of launch, the Swift had clocked bookings of more than 15,000 units and the company had to increase production subsequently.

The car was initially launched at an introductory pricing of Rs 3.87 lakh.
