RPG Life gets Australian patent

Mumbai, May 25

RPG Life Sciences Ltd (RPGLSL) has received an Australian patent for its novel formulation of cyclosporin, an immunosuppresant used in patients that have undergone transplants. The patent would allow RPGLSL to market the cyclosporin formulation in Australia and the drug has a global market of more than $1.2 billion.

RPGLSL is already marketing the formulation in India, besides some export markets.

The company has already received a patent for the cyclosporin formulation in South Africa, a note from the company said. RPG Life Sciences Ltd is the pharmaceutical arm of the Rs 9,500 crore RPG Group. RPGLSL shares were down 5.69 percent on the BSE at Rs 141.
