Plea to expedite Vizag airport upgradation

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam , May 26

The Visakha Air Travellers' Association (VATA) has urged the authorities to expedite work on the upgradation of airport to facilitate promotion of tourism, trade and industry in the region.

The association, holding its decennial celebrations here on May 27, feels that at least night landing facility should be introduced on a priority basis to enable the airport to have round-the-clock operations.

The Vizag Steel Plant's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Y. Siva Sagar Rao; The Dredging Corporation of India's CMD, Mr Neerav Kumar Gupta; The Visakhapatnam Port Trust's Deputy Chairman, Mr M.S. Rao and The Airport Authority of India's General Manager (projects), Mr H.S. Suresh are to attend the function.

Night landing

"At present, we are having only limited operations as no flight can take off after sunset. People are disinclined to come to Vizag due to uncertainty over flight schedules," the VATA President, Mr D. Panduranga Rao, said on May 25. At a press meet, he said the number of operations would go up with the extension of runway for landing of wide-bodied aircraft.
