Education States - Tamil Nadu T.I.M.E. students shine in CAT 2005 R. Ravikumar
Chennai , May 26 The crowd thronging the elaborately decorated banquet hall had one thing in common. They all had something to do with IIMs. More than half of them are just weeks away from entering IIMs across the country and the rest being the faculty of Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E.), most of whom are alumnus of different IIMs. "Just have a ball," Mr S. Balasubramanian (better known as Bala among the students of T.I.M.E.), who himself is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and Director of the institute, advises the CAT-2005 achievers. He goes on to add a friendly warning, "because, it is not going to be roses all the way for another two years."
Herculean task
Getting into IIMs is, no doubt, a Herculean task, says Mr Balasubramanian. "But you have a more difficult task to accomplish coming out with flying colours; for only toppers will have good options at the end." Microsofts and McKinseys shortlist only toppers. "If you are not among top-20, options before you will shrink," another friendly warning from him. Calling up on the students to stay networked, Ms R. Vidyalakshmi, alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and Director of the institute, said the students must work hard to be on top. "The two-year course will certainly redefine your entire personality, and how much ever hard work you put in during the time will be worth it." According to Mr Kushal Sharma, alumnus of IIM Calcutta and Course Director - CAT, it is a great achievement for the institute considering the fact that the cumulative intake into all 6 IIMs this year is likely to be around 1,400 students. Of the 1,400, T.I.M.E. students form over 40 per cent. They notched up a total of 1,455 final selections into various IIMs this year with 607 students making it to these prestigious institutes. Many more have secured admissions in other top B-Schools in the country such as XLRI, FMS, MDI.
KPMG tie-up
The institute this year has appointed KPMG to validate its performance. "With this move we hope to increase the levels of transparency and integrity among coaching institutes in the country. By subjecting ourselves to independent scrutiny by a third party of good repute, we are aiming to demonstrate our confidence in the authenticity of our results," says Mr Manek Daruvala, Founder Director of the institute and alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad.
