Bridge to reduce Chennai-Vizag distance by 100 km

Vijayawada , May 27

Leveraging its experience in infrastructure development, Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd (NEC) has created a record by completing the 3-km long bridge on the Krishna River in 11 months.

This is the shortest time taken for completion of any such project in the entire Asian region, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said while inaugurating the bridge here on Saturday.

The Government had awarded the bridge construction to Navayuga on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model with a completion time frame of 30 months.

According to Mr C.V. Rao, Navayuga Chairman, the bridge was one of the prestigious projects for the company after completion of another 1.8 km high-level bridge across theGodavari.

"For completion of the bridge in record time with all the required quality standards, Navayuga used optimised in-house designs combined with construction versatility," he said.

distance reduced

At present, there is no other bridge across the river downstream of the Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada. As a result, both Krishna and Guntur districts are secluded and development is largely hampered.

With the new connectivity, distance between Chennai and Visakhapatnam would now get reduced by around 100 km. project cost

Against the estimated project cost of Rs 71 crore, the State Government provided Rs 37 crore as subsidy, while the balance amount was borne by Navayuga.
