Alliances & Joint Ventures CollabNet to partner Sify Our Bureau
Chennai , May 28 California-based collaborative software development provider CollabNet will open a data centre in Chennai in partnership with Sify. To be located in Tidel Park, the centre will market CollabNet's Enterprise Edition that deploys distributed development software through desktop computers. The company has bagged an order for its enterprise edition from an IT organisation that provides e-governance to the Union Government and various States, said Mr Bill Portelli, President and CEO, CollabNet. The details of the project would be announced next week, he said. Collaborative software provides a set of tools to allow software accessibility over the Internet. Based on open source software, all applications are built on the Internet giving access to users working on one project from different geographic locations. This is unlike conventional applications that are built on chips embedded in the computer's motherboard and hence restrict the mobility of the project to one location. Existing software can be upgraded to provide global accessibility over secure networks and will coexist with collaborative tools. "This will prevent movement of people between software development centres to solve minor issue and help improve business efficiency by five times," said Mr Portelli. The $20 million (around Rs 90 crore) company is expecting about 10 per cent of its 2006-07 revenues to come from India.
