AP to induct 7,114 contract staff for power sector

The Andhra Pradesh Government is in the process of finalising guidelines for the recruitment of 7,114 junior linemen on contract basis and a notification would be issued within a week.

The State Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Monday instructed officials to finalise the recruitment guidelines.

After a review meeting on the performance of Discoms and AP Transco, Dr Reddy said with the appointment of the new linemen, the breakdowns could be attended to immediately and thereby quality power supply could be ensured.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, the officials said out of a total of 22.5 lakh capacitors to be fixed to the agricultural pump sets all over the state, 18 lakh capacitors were installed thereby covering about 75 per cent farm sector connections.

The districts of Warangal, Karimnagar, Ranga Reddy, Chittoor, Nellore, Kurnool and Anantapur registered below 80 per cent in fixing capacitors. Other districts exceeded 95 per cent.

Kothagudem station

Expressing satisfaction over the status of installation of capacitors, the CM said directed the officials to speed up 1x500 MW Kothagudem Thermal Power Station--Stage VI.

While the coal linkage was cleared, he wanted the environmental clearance.

On the power supply, during 2006-07 (up to May 26) is 8444 MU energy demand was met compared to 7889 MU during the same period of previous year, registering an increase of 7.03 per cent.

The average daily energy met during May 2006 (up to 26th) was 141.38 MU compared to 136.81 MU during the same period, previous year, reflecting an increase of 3.34 per cent.
