Datawind unveils `PocketSurfer'

New Delhi, May 30

Datawind Corporation, a Canada-based provider of wireless Web access products and services, today launched `PocketSurfer' a wireless Web access device in India. The device allows users to download Web pages in 7-9 seconds, is compatible with all cellular networks, and is priced at Rs 9,999. It has a 640-pixel LCD screen, a rechargeable lithium ion battery, a thumb keyboard and mouse pointer. The device displays Internet pages in their original format, without modifying the layout or content.

The product would be distributed in Northern India through Savi Vision Pvt Ltd and Obeco Merchants. "We have already got a pre-launch business of 1000 devices in India. We expect to sell 15,000-20,000 such products every year," Mr Harjinder Singh, India Head of Datawind, said at a conference here.
