Silver declines; gold edges higher

Silver prices reacted sharply, while gold moved up further on the local bullion market on Wednesday.

Standard gold prices were up Rs 20 at Rs 9,775 per 10 gm from the previous days' close of Rs 9,755. Pure gold (99.99 fineness) was up Rs 20 to close at Rs 9,825 per 10 gm from Rs 9,805. Silver (.999 fineness) price was down Rs 95 to close at Rs 19,320 from previous close of Rs 19,415 a kg.

Chennai: Bar silver: Rs 20,255; retail silver (per gm): Rs 21.70; Standard gold: Rs 9,890; retail ornament gold (22 carat per gm): Rs 916.
