TS Bhattacharya is temporary SBI chief

Mumbai , May 31

Mr T.S. Bhattacharya, Managing Director of SBI, has been asked to take temporary charge as Chairman. This follows the retirement of Mr A.K. Purwar as Chairman today.

The Government's order on Wednesday said: "The financial and administrative powers attached to the Chairman of SBI shall be exercised by Mr Bhattacharya with the approval of the bank's central board till further orders."

According to news reports, the two Managing Directors of SBI - Mr Bhattacharya and Mr O.P. Bhatt - were interviewed for the top post in the bank. Announcement of a permanent Chairman is expected shortly.
