Mr V.P. Shetty

Mumbai , May 31

Mr V.P. Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director, IDBI Ltd, has been elected Chairman of the Indian Banks' Association for 2006-07.

He is taking over from Mr A.K. Purwar, who retired as Chairman of State Bank of India this month.

Mr Shetty took over as Chairman of IDBI Ltd on March 3, 2005. He is currently serving various boards of financial institutions and committees constituted by the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Government.

Prior to joining IDBI Ltd, Mr Shetty was the Executive Director, UCO Bank, in October 1999 and elevated as Chairman and Managing Director in October 2000. He was also the Chairman and Managing Director of Canara Bank from November 2004 to March 3, 2005.
