Hyderabad , May 31

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations has responded positively to a State Government request and offered assistance to set up a Rs 40-crore Water Technology Centre at the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) to provide applied research support to irrigation projects.

Besides studying the ambitious `Jalayagnam' programme that sought to construct irrigation projects worth Rs 75,000-crore, the FAO agreed to offer technical assistance to the State in initiatives like biodiesel, organic farming and modernisation of irrigation.
