Power Corporate - Alliances & Joint Ventures Tata Power ties up with Siemens, Doosan for ultra mega projects Our Bureau
Mumbai , June 1 Tata Power Company (TPC) has tied up with two international players creating a consortium with them to bid for ultra mega power projects (over 3,500 MW) of the Government of India. TPC has signed agreements with German-based Siemens Power Generation and Korea-based Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co, according to statements issued by both TPC and Siemens. This engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) consortium will bid for the ultra mega projects. Two of them for which TPC has been shortlisted will be supercritical steam power plants of between 3,500 MW and 3,800 MW capacity. TPC had submitted its Expression of Interest (EoI) for four of the several ultra-mega power projects, which are being awarded by the Union Government through international competitive bidding. These EoIs were for the projects in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The company has received Request for Qualification documents for two of these projects Sasan in Madhya Pradesh and Mundra in Gujarat, it said. "The EPC consortium of Siemens and Doosan Heavy Industries is a formidable one for the design and construction of power plants based on super critical technology required for such large sized units and will form the basis of the company's bids for the Ultra Mega projects," said TPC. This development comes on the back of the recent announcement made by the company to augment its generation capacity by over 4,500 MW involving investment of Rs 18,000 crore (this announcement does not include the ultra mega power projects which the company may win). "The formation of this EPC consortium will help in facilitating an excellent technical solution which is also cost competitive," said Mr Adi Engineer, Director, TPC.
