Dust tea prices fall at Kochi sales

Despite good general demand, the price of most dust tea varieties fell or remained steady at the Kochi tea auction, which had 11,23,000 kg of dust tea on offer. Medium and below medium CTC varieties were quoted at last week's levels.

High-priced CTC remained steady to easier, depending on the quality. Medium and secondaries eased by around Re 1. Medium and below medium grainier varieties witnessed some export enquiries. Best CTC varieties were quoted between Rs 55 and 64, medium CTC between Rs 45 and 53 and below medium-ranged between Rs 41and 46. High grown BOPD dust quoted between Rs 90 and 104, medium BOPD Rs 41 and 43 and secondaries between Rs 35 37.

Leaf tea auction

There was fair general demand at the leaf tea auction with 4,90,000 kg on offer. Medium primary orthodox brokens and fannings remained steady. Whole leaf grades remained dearer, depending on the quality. Secondary orthodox varieties tended to ease. CTC varieties were quoted at last week's levels. Best Nilgiri varieties were quoted between Rs 65 and 70, medium orthodox between Rs 46 and 56 and plain orthodox between Rs 44 and 45. Best CTC leaf ranged between Rs 50 and 55, while medium CTC leaf were between Rs 48 and 52.

Exporters to Iraq and Tunisia were less active, as exporters to CIS countries operated on whole leaf grades. Exporters to Pakistan made enquiries for smaller CTC varieties.

Kodanad BOPD at Rs 104, Pasuparai FD at Rs 91 and Parkside BOPD at Rs 90 commanded the top prices in the dust segment. In the leaf segment, Chamraj OP commanded the top price at Rs 96, Kodanad BOPF Rs 92, Havukal BOPF Rs 92 and Quinshola FBOP at Rs 76.
