Overseas Investments ABC Consultants may foray into Chinese market Moumita Bakshi Chatterjee
New Delhi , June 4 With rising cross border movement of professionals between India and China in sectors including high-tech, electronics and manufacturing, recruitment firm ABC Consultants is considering a presence in the Chinese market, to offer senior management level recruitment services to Indian companies that are making a beeline for China. "China is a manufacturing hub, while India has established prowess in services and the potential for co-operation between the two is immense. There are definite signs of a busy India-China corridor, in the coming months. If we get into the Chinese market, we can play a crucial role in scouting for candidates to fill up senior and middle management positions, for Indian companies that are scaling up operations in China. These would include filling up the top management levels such as CEOs and functional heads. We will not get into lower-end positions that are more commoditised," Mr Shiv Agrawal, Chief Executive Officer of ABC Consultants, said. He said gaining a foothold in China could also help ABC meet the senior level manpower requirements of Chinese companies that plan to set up or expand Indian operations. "We are appointing a consultancy firm to do basic entry strategy report for us on China. We are likely to take a decision on the issue by end of July," Mr Agrawal said. He said that the company was yet to figure out the modalities for China operations. "There are many options that include buying an existing Chinese recruitment firm, acquiring stake in a Chinese recruitment firm or tie-up of some sort. We have not finalised our plans yet but are actively exploring the China strategy," he said. ABC Consulting is also in the process of setting up operations in the US and UK and is looking to opening an office in West Asia. "The offices in the US and UK are being positioned as sourcing bases, and we anticipate a flurry of people wanting to come back to India. In addition, we are planning an office in Dubai given the sizable Indian population in the region," he said.
