Kerala protests cut in Central wheat quota

Our Bureau

Kochi , June 4

The State Government will soon send a high level delegation to New Delhi to persuade the Centre to revoke the order slashing wheat quota for the state.

The State Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Mr C. Divakaran, told reporters here today that the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, had already sent a fax message to the Centre, registering the State Government's protest.

Describing the Union Government's order as "unilateral and an injustice to a new government," Mr Divakaran said the Centre had taken the decision without consulting the State Government.

On the reported corruption in the Civil Supplies Department, the Minister said, "I agree that there was a lot of corruption. The Civil Supplies

Department has been plundered." If needed, there would be a CBI probe, he said.
