Wockhardt to sell UK co skin drug

Our Bureau

Mumbai, June 5

Wockhardt has signed an in-licensing agreement with the UK-based derma company LSI to market Vitix, a patented product for the treatment of pigmentation disorder vitiligo.

Vitiligo is a skin disorder where the patient develops white patches caused by localised loss of pigmentation and the problem affects 1-2 per cent of global population.

Vitix is a gel for topical application and will be manufactured by Wockhardt in India from active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) imported from LSI, a note from Wockhardt said.

Vitix is expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2006. The product is already marketed in Europe, North America, South-East Asia and Africa.

In-licensing Vitix would strengthen Wockhardt's dermatology portfolio and that includes the Nadoxin range, a quinolone antibiotic for topical use.
