TN Chamber hails Railways' decision

Our Correspondent

Madurai, June 5

The Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has hailed the restoration of telescopic benefits on end-to-end fares effective June 15 by the Ministry of Railways. In a statement, the Chamber President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, thanked the Ministry for taking cognisance of the need to restore the benefits. The Railway Board, through an announcement in April 2006, had suddenly removed the benefits enjoyed by passengers buying tickets for stations to which there are no direct trains. The revised fare sans the telescopic benefit seriously affected passengers in non-metros, small towns, and rural areas. The removal resulted in hike in fares by more than 37 per cent.
