Genpact tops list of third-party BPOs

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 5

Genpact has topped Nasscom's list of top 15 third-party ITES-BPO companies based on revenue parameter, with WNS and Wipro BPO in second and third positions.

Genpact (formely GECIS) had not figured out in last year's list due to its "captive status" for most of 2004-05, and WNS had led the pack in previous year's rankings, followed by Wipro BPO and HCL Tech BPO.

According to 2005-06 rankings reported as per the annual Nasscom survey on IT industry performance, HCL BPO finished fourth, while ICICI OneSource ranked fifth.

IBM Daksh and Progeon grabbed the sixth and the seventh positions respectively, while Aegis BPO and EXL Services took eighth and ninth slots.

24/7 Customer stood tenth in the Nasscom's latest rankings.

The others who made it to the list are MphasiS BPO, Intelenet Global Services, GTL, TCS BPO, and Transworks - in that order.

In 2005-06, the Indian ITES-BPO segment grew by 37 per cent contributing $6.3 billion to the total software and services exports of $23.6 billion, Nasscom said.

It added that a few companies, including eFunds and Sutherland Global Services, did not provide India revenues as reported to STPI. "If the global revenues of such firms had been considered, they would have featured in the top five companies."

Mr Kiran Karnik, President of Nasscom, said: "In 2005-06, the industry size and growth exceeded our forecasts, reflecting strong demand. The entire software and services industry is expected to record revenues of $36-38 billion in the current year; we expect the ITES-BPO segment to continue its growth momentum and expect exports to cross $8 billion."

Nasscom also said that the domestic market for ITES-BPO witnessed a significant increase in demand with the estimated value of work outsourced (by domestic clients) growing by over 55 per cent to $860 million in 2005-06.

The banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) segment was among the most mature verticals in terms of offshore ITES-BPO adoption.
