Succession plan taking shape at Infosys

Bangalore , June 7

"Role models are powerful catalysts in raising the confidence, enthusiasm and energy of an entire generation," said Mr N R Narayana Murthy, Chairman and Chief Mentor, Infosys Ltd.

Who will take over from Mr Murthy as Chief Mentor? Infosys, which will see the formal exit of its celebrated founder-leader by end-August, is putting together a succession plan and may make a formal announcement soon. "We are working on a succession plan," Mr Murthy confirmed to Business Line but did not share the details.

Speaking on his post-retirement life, Mr Murthy said though there were no clear plans, he would continue to be the non-executive Chairman. "I'm on the board of several companies and would like to work in the area of higher education."

Mr Murthy who's passionate about higher education in the country is pained at the quality of engineers the country is churning out. He reiterated the need to raise the standards of teachers, which is critical to high quality education. "There are several means to achieve this: increase the salaries of the teachers, increase the fees, have a good and transparent loan mechanism for higher education where prospective employers have access to information on such students."
