Accountability

This is with reference to "Democratic deficit" (Business Line, June 7): The executive, judiciary and the legislature are three pillars of democracy. The President can be removed from his office under the proviso [b] of Article 56 in the manner provided in Article 61. The judiciary is also liable to be recalled as provided under Article 124 [4].

Government servants can also be removed from service under Article 311. But there is no provision to call back members of the legislature who, having been elected to power, often treat the executive with scant respect. Will the law-makers enact laws to control themselves to make India a true democratic country.
