People Amrita Patel is acting Chairperson of IRMA Virendra Pandit
Anand (Gujarat) , June 8 The Board of Governors of the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) has accepted the resignation of Dr Verghese Kurien as life-time Chairperson of the institute and appointed Dr Amrita Patel, Chairperson of the National Diary Development Board (NDDB), as the acting Chairperson. It has also set up a three-member `search committee' to select a new Chairperson for IRMA within a month's time. According to sources, Dr Amrita Patel had declined to accept the full-time Chairpersonship of IRMA, despite being the most likely candidate.After a four-hour-long scheduled meeting of the board , a three-member `search committee' was set up with Dr Amrita Patel; IIM-A Director, Dr Bakul Dholakia, and the Hyderabad-based Basix group head, Mr Vijay Mahajan, as its members to select a new Chairperson of IRMA.In addition, the board-member Ms Neelima Khaitan was made acting Executive Director of IRMA in place of Mr L.K. Vasvani. Another committee to search for a full-time Executive Director has also been set up to select the new head within 90 days. The board member, Mr V. Ramchandran, who presided over the meeting, later informed reporters that the resignation of Dr Kurien, who had announced his decision to quit IRMA in Mumbai recently, had been accepted. Also, the board approved the institute's budget for three consecutive financial years 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07, of Rs 7 crore each.
