Orient Paper Mills bags eco award

Kolkata , June 9

Orient Paper Mills (OPM) of the CK-GP Birla Group has been declared the winner of "Golden Peacock Environment Management Award" for 2006 by the World Environment Foundation (WEF), which is one of the leading non-profit, non-governmental organisations solely dedicated to the improvement of the environment and sustainable development.

The winner was selected by a jury headed by the former Chief Justice of India, Justice P.N. Bhagwati, while other jury members included, among others, the former Chief Justice of India, Mr Justice M.N. Venkatchaliah, Mr Justice A.M. Ahmadi and Mr Suresh Prabhu, MP and former Union minister of environment and forest. The award will be handed over to the company at a function on June 11, 2006 in Himachal Pradesh.

Commenting on the development, OPM's Managing Director, Mr M.L. Pachisia, said, "Orient Paper Mills has taken the issue of environment improvement very seriously and is fully committed to promoting a cleaner and greener environment in and around its plants." He further added that the company continuously innovated various actions to achieve cleaner production, minimum wastage of resources and utilisation of effluents.
