Economic Offences Our Legal Correspondent
Kolkata , June 9 On an application made on behalf of Mr Dinesh Dalmiya for bail, Mr Justice S.P. Talukdar of the Calcutta High Court today rectified the word `argue' and put in its place "ignore", perhaps providing a new dimension to the bail proceeding. The court corrected the mistake, perhaps inadvertently entered in its earlier order dated May 15, 2006. The scenario has now started changing after the filing of the chargesheet by the prosecution in Bankshall Court. The prosecution has taken March 13, 2006 as the date of arrest of Mr Dalmiya, and this chargesheet filed within the required 90-day period from date of arrest, may prove to be an impediment for obtaining bail. But it has been stated on behalf of Mr Dalmiya that he surrendered at Chennai on February 27, 2006, and that the prosecution has wrongly stated March 13, 2006, as date of arrest. If his contention on the arrest date is admitted, Mr Dalmiya may derive advantage in future bail petitions.
