New Projects States - Maharashtra LG Electronics launches optical disk drive operations Our Bureau
Pune , June 9 Consumer electronics, IT products and home appliance manufacturer, LG Electronics India today announced the commencement of operations of its greenfield facilty for Optical Disk Drive (ODD) products at Ranjangaon, Pune. The company will invest Rs 300 crore in its new DVD writer manufacturing facilities that will give an edge in production and subsequent market shares, a company statement said here today. The greenfield facility will manufacture premium end disk drive models for the export markets, especially in Europe, Mr K.R. Kim, President South Asia, LGE and Managing Director, LGEIL said. According to the statement LGEIL is now the first company in the country to have kicked off manufacturing DVD Writers. The 6 lakh unit per month DVD writer plant in Ranjangaon is the second largest plant for the product in Asia. The facility will also have an additional product range to the existing line up. LG Electronics began manufacturing of GSM mobile phones at the Ranjangaon plant early last year. The plant aims to reach up to 1500 manpower base and an investment of Rs. 300 crores till 2010 for ODD plant. With this unit LG India has become the export hub for LG DVD writers catering predominantly to the European markets. The company aims to touch an export turnover of USD 450 million by 2008, the statement said. The Ranjangaon plant currently manufactures six lakh refrigerators, 10 lakh colour televisions, four lakh microwave ovens and 10 lakh GSM mobile handsets every month.
