Karnataka Bank targets Rs 620-cr farm credit

Karnataka Bank Ltd has proposed to disburse Rs 620 crore of fresh credit to agriculture sector during 2006-07.

A bank release said here on Wednesday that the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr Ananthakrishna, finalised this target while addressing the regional heads and select branch managers at the `Agri Business Conference 2006' in Mangalore recently.

He also released three new schemes - `KBL-Sasyadham,' `KBL-Krishik Pushpa,' and `KBL-Krishik Ankur' - at the conference.

Mr P. Jayarama Bhat, Chief General Manager, said that branches in the rural area should go to the doorsteps of the farmer and increase the share of small loans so as to ensure balanced growth.

Mr G.K. Bhat, General Manager (Credit), asked the branches to popularise the agricultural schemes of the bank through effective marketing. He stressed the need for updating the knowledge on agriculture through proper training.

Mr N.S. Chakkera, General Manager (Recovery), called upon the branches to gear up recovery efforts to maintain health of the agriculture portfolio of the bank.
