Mixed trend at Kochi tea auction

The trends at the Kochi auction for dust tea remained mixed with good liquoring CTC varieties remaining steady at the previous week's levels, while other CTC eased by Rs 1-2. High grown orthodox turned dearer, while medium orthodox eased by Rs 1-2. There was 10,23,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the auction.

CTC

Best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55 and Rs 64, medium CTC Rs 44-52 while below medium ranged between Rs 41 and Rs 45. High grown BOPD was quoted at Rs 108, medium BOPD at Rs 40-42, while secondaries were between Rs 35 and Rs 37.

There was 4,00,000 kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction, which generally witnessed weak trends. Orthodox medium brokens tended to ease by Rs1-2, whole leaf grades also eased, while primaries remained steady. Quality buying was witnessed in high grown orthodox varieties. Exporters remained selective on orthodox leaf grades, while CTCs witnessed less demand from exporters.

Nilgiri

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched between Rs 65 and Rs 70, medium orthodox Rs 45-56 while plain orthodox were between Rs 44 and Rs 45. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 48-53, even as medium CTC realised Rs 46-50.

Top prices in the dust segment were realised by Kodanad BOPD at Rs 108, Pasuparai FD at Rs 89, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 81 and Pasuparai RD at Rs 71. In the leaf segment, Havukal BOPF fetched Rs 101, Kodanad BOPF Rs 101, Chamraj OP at Rs 95 and Chamraj FOP at Rs 86.
