They will be entitled for a maximum loan of Rs 3 lakh. Mr Yediyurappa also said that Karnataka is the first State to give loans to farmers, fishermen, and weavers, at four per cent interest. The State Government has also come out with a scheme called `Matsya Mahila Swavalambi Yojana', under which self-help groups of fisherwomen will be given loans up to Rs 10,000 at low interest rates. Besides, the Government has decided to construct around 10,000 houses for fishermen in the coastal region. While the quota of kerosene for country boats has been increased from 200 litres to 400 litres, the quota of subsidised diesel for mechanised boats has been increased from 55,000 kilolitres to 70,000 kilolitres. The Government is also contemplating making life jackets and wireless sets compulsory for those venturing into the sea.
ALAMATTI DAM
Mr Yediyurappa welcomed the interim order of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal. The tribunal had dismissed the demand of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra to direct Karnataka not to store water beyond 509 m at Alamatti Dam. He said that the tribunal has allowed Karnataka to store water to the level of 519 m. The State will be satisfied if it is allowed to increase the height of the dam to 524 m. "We will work on that matter. I have the confidence that we will be successful in arguing this before the tribunal." According to him, the excess land given to the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises for Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor would be taken back. "We will discuss the matter after the arrival of the Chief Minister from Dubai." Later, speaking to newspersons at Udupi, he said that the Government has earmarked Rs 20 crore for providing training to nearly one lakh unemployed youths in the State. Under this, an unemployed youth will get a stipend of Rs 750 each from the Government and the industry where he is undergoing training.
