TN waives ST component on diesel price

Our Bureau

Chennai , June 11

The Tamil Nadu Government has decided not to levy the incremental component of sales tax on diesel, thereby reducing the price of diesel by 45 paise a litre.

The increase will now work out Rs 1.78 a litre against the earlier Rs 2.23, according to an official press release. The release said that the Government would lose Rs 180 crore a year due to this.

Also, the Government would stick to its decision not to raise fares in State transport corporation buses, which would result in the corporations bearing an additional loss of Rs 100 crore, it said.

A litre of diesel will now cost Rs 35.50.
