School to offer short-term and longer-term courses.

Hyderabad , June 12

With over 25 years in offering clinical services in the areas of weight management and skin care and with operations spread over India and United States, Anoo's Electrolysis & Obesity (P) Ltd has now embarked upon a major backward integration into cosmetology education.

For the first time in the country, Anoo's is setting up an International Beauty School (Anoo's IBS), a professional school for aestheticians at the graduate and undergraduate levels with tailor-made short-term and longer-term courses ranging from a minimum of 20 hours to as high as 1,200 hours.

Growing demand

Stating that the over Rs 5,000 crore Indian beauty allied services and products market has been growing at around 20 per cent a year, the Anoo's Director, Ms Ch. Anuradha, said cosmetology education has now assumed major significance. The Indian beauty industry needs thousands of thoroughly trained beauty professionals to meet the growing demand.

Anoo's is investing around Rs 4 crore on the beauty school towards latest infrastructure spread over two floors and 10,000 sq. ft. It is fully equipped with styling areas, designated workstations and specialised equipment. The school also has another 10,000 sq. ft space covering two floors of the same building dedicated to salon services that include beauty and healthcare centres, she said.

"We have ensured a well-designed curriculum to develop aptitude, appearance and attitude. The content covers skin, hair, nail aesthetics, personal grooming, international standard cosmetology, spa and aromatherapy treatments. We have roped in industry experts and medical and science professionals both as fulltime and visiting faculty," Ms Anuradha said.

`Follow global guidelines'

She said the company is currently at an advanced stage of discussions with leading international beauty therapy associations such as CIDESCO and City & Guilds for entering into affiliations.

However, Anoo's IBS should complete at least one year of operations for such affiliation with City & Guilds and three years for CIDESCO.
