Bangalore , June 12 Nearly 40 per cent of sales of white goods in the country is expected to come from big retail chains in another three years. LG Electronics product group head for washing machines, Mr Niladri Datta, told a news conference that big retail chains will be the largest consumer of white goods in the country in another three years. Unveiling the company's new range of washing machines, Mr Datta said LG expects to increase its market share in washing machines to 38 per cent this year from 34 per cent in the previous year. LG sold over 4 lakh semi-automatic washing machines and over 1.1 lakh automatic washing machines last year in a market whose size is around 1.5 million units. LG's total sales is expected to cross Rs 9,000 crore this year. Mr Datta said the company expects to sell around 5,000 units of the latest washing machine model, which is based on direct drive technology. The direct drive technology integrates the motor, belt and pulley into a single motor, which is attached directly to a drum.
The cost of the model ranges between Rs 30,000 and Rs 80,000. These washing machines, which are imported from South Korea, are priced nearly 30-35 per cent higher than other washing machines.
