Exporters can now breathe easy as they need not divulge any confidential business information about the overseas buyer or the details of the product exported, while applying for a certificate of origin (non-preferential) from authorised agencies.
Acting on representation from trade and industry that disclosure of the name of the buyer abroad and the details of the export product had often resulted in confidential business information becoming public, the Government has now allowed exporters to make such an application without filling in the details of the overseas buyers or the product being exported.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has now said that the exporter could fill up such particulars after the certificate of origin (non-preferential) has been certified and signed by the authorised agency.
Asked whether the Government move would really help exporting community, the Director-General, Federation of Indian Export Organisations, Mr Ajai Sahai, said that this would help, as there would be no scope for generation of any unhealthy competition.
