Chennai , June 13 The Federation of Indian Export Organisations - Southern Region has represented to the Tamil Nadu Government to constitute an export promotion board and formulate an export policy for the State. According to press release from the federation, its southern region Chairman, Mr A. Sakthivel, met the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, on Tuesday and presented detailed statistics of the State's export performance. There was scope to enhance its export performance through product- and service-specific attention and infrastructure development. During 2005-06, exports went up to Rs 66,856 crore from Rs 54,791 crore in 2004-05. A State export policy along the lines of the national foreign trade policy would boost performance in areas where it has potential. The Chief Minister could head the export promotion board, which would include representatives from the government and industry. The export promotion board should meet once in three months to discuss issues and suggest measures to encourage exports.
