Thiruvananthapuram , June 13

The Dubai-based Condor group, engaged in construction contracting in West Asia, has finalised plans for five major projects in Thiruvananthapuram with an outlay of around Rs 200 crore.

The centrepiece would be a modern shopping complex in the heart of the city, featuring a four-screen multiplex and an 80-room hotel.

Mr Sivaprasad, Managing Director of the group, said that the complex is estimated to cost Rs 100 crore and was likely to be completed in 2008. The group has begun negotiations with the country's leading retailers for leasing of shopping space, he added.

Housing complexes

The group will also build four residential complexes with 300 apartments. Work has already begun on one complex, Marigold, which will be completed in 2007. The rest are expected to be ready in 2008.

Mr Sivaprasad said Condor Building Contracting LLC in Dubai has completed more than 150 projects in its 23 years. It won Dubai Municipality's Best Construction Group award in 2004.

He said that the company built the first-ever Green Building in West Asia, which is also the 15th Platinum rated Green Building in the world. The concept focuses on developing high-performance, sustainable buildings with water, energy and material efficiency.

Mr Sivaprasad said Condor is a vertically integrated company with a well-equipped and automated carpentry section; a sophisticated electro-mechanical section; aluminium and steel fabrication unit; and an export-oriented unit at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu for manufacturing scaffoldings, pressed fittings and related accessories.
