Postal dept unveils `cash at doorsteps' scheme

Our Correspondent

Madurai , June 14

The Postal Department has launched the `cash at doorsteps' scheme for postal saving bank account holders in a function held at the Head Post Office here.

Claiming that the new scheme is one more feather in the department's innovative approaches in offering value-added services for the benefit of the customers, the Director, Postal Services, Southern Region (TN), Mr K. Balasubramanian, said the scheme would immensely benefit pensioners and senior citizens who transfer the interest earnings under automatic transfer to savings bank account from monthly income and senior citizen savings schemes.

Registering under the respective head offices, the account holders with prior intimation to the postman and completing the necessary formality can withdraw from their accounts for their monthly requirements, an amount not exceeding Rs 5,000 at a time, remaining at home. He added that the scheme launched earlier at Chennai on June 9, is operated in addition to Madurai at Tiruchi and Coimbatore.

This would soon be extended to other towns in the region.
