Railways Balaji Railroad Systems bags Bangla order Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 14 Balaji Railroad Systems Ltd, the Hyderabad-based railway consulting company has bagged an order from the Bangladesh Government for its Railway network. Balaji Railroad, in association with SMEC International Ltd of Australia will jointly conduct the feasibility study for conversion/construction of the 321-km, Dhaka-Chittagong rail line into double track with electric traction for the project they have been awarded. The scope of the study would also include preparing tender documents for a design-and-build contract. It is scheduled to be completed by June 2007, according to a press release from the company.

In view of the growing population, demands and needs both of passenger and freight of Dhaka and Chittagong, the Bangladesh Government has decided to commission an investigation into the feasibility of upgrading the rail link between the two cities. In addition to providing the necessary solutions to freight and passenger carrying, the study would have to do an environmental impact assessment and develop a strategy to address resettlement issues, the release added. Balaji Railroad Systems is a 20-year-old company and has done consultancy projects in the UK, the US, France, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. It has also emerged as a preferred partner from India to leading international consultants for specialist railway consulting assignments, the release claimed.
