Strategy Industry & Economy - Hotels Radisson plans to set up 14 hotels in 18 months Our Bureau
Chennai , June 14 Fourteen more Radisson hotels are likely to come up in India during the next 18 months, according to Mr Vikram Cotah, General Manager, Radisson GRT. He said that these projects are coming up in cites such as Hyderabad, Agra, and Bangalore, and in resort locations such as Kumarakom. The Radisson GRT, which is close to Chennai airport, will be adding 70 rooms, a spa, a themed restaurant, and a business centre. GRT Hotels and Resorts, the company that owns the Radisson GRT property, has purchased an acre behind the hotel for about Rs 3.5 crore, according to Mr T. Nataraajan, CEO of GRT Hotels and Resorts. The project cost is yet to be worked out, but according to industry norms it would entail about Rs 28 crore, with each room costing about Rs 40 lakh, he added. GRT Radisson also plans to start in-flight catering, its first customer being Kingfisher Airlines. The potential for the hospitality industry in India is even greater than China, according to Mr Andrew Hickey, Director of Operations Services, Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific (Radisson is a Carlson brand). He said that the recent statistics have shown that internal investment in India in the hospitality sector has increased. India's proximity to Europe is another important factor for the surge in the investment. GRT Radisson became the first property in the Asia-Pacific to win three of the Carlson Hotels awards.
