It has appointed a master franchisee, Om Pizza Eats India Pvt Ltd for expansion in North India. The company plans to open 100 Papa John's outlets in the country over the next 11 years. The company said that it would initially focus on expanding in the Northern States including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Punjab. "We have already tested our concept through an outlet in Gurgaon, and are now opening out first flagship store in Noida," Mr Nigel Travis, CEO of Papa John's International, said. The company has also set up a commissary/quality control centre in Gurgaon with an investment of Rs 1.7 crore. According to Mr Travis, starting a dine-in format restaurant in the country costs around Rs 80 lakh - Rs 1.5 crore. While Om Pizza would invest in a minimum of 25 outlets in the country, the company is planning to further sub-franchisee the remaining outlets to other companies. Papa John's offers a meal for two at approximately Rs 250. Mr Travis said: "The Indian market is growing and provides immense opportunities for multi-national chains in the country. Growth in the number of total pizza outlets in last 8-9 years has been 15-20 per cent and I expect it to grow even faster at 25-40 per cent this year and beyond."
